Zig and floater fishing
Introduction
Zig fishing is great way to be active behind your rods in my minds eye it’s a static form of fly fishing ment to imitate naturals in the lakes environment with changes in depth to locate the carp it can be a deadly method, wether you choose to flavour your zigs with attractors or oils is your choice and dependent of time of year.
In this articles Iam going to cover 2 ways in which I believe zigs are most effective. Different colours will work at different times but I will never fish without black foam I think black foam has personally caught me more fish than any other colour I’ve ever used.
So what’s the purpose behind fishing zigs?, starting with this method in its entirety zigs are better tied with the foam as tight as possible to the hook to create one silhouette and are best fished in what’s called the thermobolic layer, this is in simple terms the optimal place to fish a zig, it’s where the lakes water is most oxygenated and naturals are most active through the summer months and were the temperature is most constant.
In the summer months it will be Anywhere from just under the surface to a 1/3 of the lakes depth e.g in a lake that’s 20ft deep it would be in the first 6.5 ft from the surface. I have two types of zig Iam going to show you I use each one for a different reason, so I’ll start with the stand alone approach first:
Set up 1:
I will watch the carp and try and work out the routes they use in the lake and present this zig in there path hoping to trap one on its passing
Set up No.2
This method I will use on a more heavily fished venue with higher stock levels were the carp are used to spoding or spombs being the dinner gongs. This time I would try and imitate what ever I was particles I would be spoding out within my cloudy mix.
Floater Fishing set ups
Set up No.1
Both floater fishing set ups are very similar the first one I use a pellet band on the shank of the for speed of the carp are taking baits well this is my first choice the hook is a size 10 micro barb set up on a 8 or 12lb link with a small piece of shrink tube or silicone tube to aid straight line lay which equals better presentation.
Set up No.2
I use this set up when the carp are playing hard to get simply score a groove in the pellet and use rig glue to secure the hook on place.
I hope you find this article informative and it aids you in your future captures tight lines
