Sunday the 7th December saw me visit a lake that holds many secrets and fish that reach the magical 38lb mark at the right time of the year and all this just 25 mins from my house.
As with most lakes now a days in England we can sometimes turn up a find the banks rammed to the rafters and belive or not today was one of them days 10 anglers all with a average of 3 rods each and all of us that are good with the maths will no that 30 lines in a lake this time of year leaves not much room for those who turn up for a day session. With only 2 swims left, swim 1 and swim 8 we decided on sharing swim one as we both where fishing two rods and as we were on a day session ideally if we caught we wanted to work as a team, and work the swim as much as we can, I myself would fish a nash zig bug on one rod and a bottom bait rig on the other with a big clump of evolution carp tackle fake maggots and a a pva stick ball size full of crushed amber strawberry and maggots. casting around every 30 to 40 mins.
My partner in crime had decide to fish one of his rods on the Chod and the other on a snowman rig fishing the same way casting around every 30 to 40 mins, surely with 4 rods all with a different approach and the swim being worked we would find some fish and hopefully bag one between us, now as it was December and cold with a big strong wind this wasn’t going to be a easy task.
At around 2 pm and sitting in the bivvy soup in hand a alarm could be heard from across the lake singing it’s merry song, great we thought knowing that a 32 had been out Friday and now this one our hopes were high, so after a quick break the rods came in and the sodding began all over again, as you can see from the pictures a hard days fishing and loads of effort rewarded us with no fish but cold hands and feet oh well we thought at least we had put in the effort and time on a lake unknown to the pair of us and as that old saying goes you won’t catch sitting indoors watching the telly.
