So it’s Thursday, 4 days since my last 24hr session. I’ve finished work at 230pm, been home and loaded the essentials for an evenings dangle as you can’t catch em at home. My first port of call is my weekend’s baited spot so I sit at the waters edge in the steps swim. Watching over the water and paying special attention to my ex baited spot. If I know anything about the carp in here it pays to sit on bait. After about 45 minutes I decide to continue around the lake and stop to chat to 2 lads fishing the humps and joes swims for 20 minutes. We share thoughts on the lake which from my position is invaluable as these boys have fished the place for years. I think I hold my own in a carpy conversation these days so happy their not thinking “who’s that noddy” I carry on around the lake finding myself drawn to the point.
The swim boasts more visual water than any on the lake and with nothing to go on it’s a great place to start. Left rod under an overhang on a 4 foot zig, middle rod clipped up to the island and my right out in open water about half way out. Middle and right receive 50 baits each and I sit back, wait and watch. Within half hour I see a splash to my left in front of the pads. Unsure whether it be fish or bird I take a closer look. 2 more occurrences still has me unsure with bird life being close then jackpot…. a clear carp show. The rods are wound in immediately which were only fishing while I was waiting for this. Off I go to the pads swim. While looking at the water in close range another big fish boshes right under my nose. 2 rods flicked out either side of the ripples and the zig to my left I’m feeling super confident!!
Fish continue to show though start to push away from me. 2 trapped line casts and there on to me. I continue to aimlessly recast beyond them and wind in to the zone but they know their being angled for. Time runs out and I’m left smiling. Sneaky carps. I’ll try to get over during the spawn next. Can’t wait to see a few fish frolicking about. Obviously I wont be fishing for them just good to see
them.
Until next time thanks for reading
