As I am writing this blog I am looking out onto the clear blue Menorcan sea whilst digging my toes into the golden sand and all I can think of is when I’m off angling in the English rain next! It’s true what they say about carp fishing, once it gets a hold of you it just won’t let go. Don’t get me wrong, I have loved every minute of being with my family but 9 days of sitting on a bedchair staring at the water without my rods is starting to take its toll on me. I have found myself looking for signs of fish in the sea and actually got excited when I saw a flat spot created by a large German lady and her over zealous use of tanning oil. (I reckon she’d fall for a popped up doughnut over a large bed of spaghetti).
Its going to be a busy couple of weeks for me, with the Fosters of Birmingham open day with Avid carp and then off to Linear fisheries for 4 days to attend the last ever Motor Neurone Disease Association (mnda) event. For those of you that don’t already know about the mnda event it is a chance for us ordinary folk to mingle with more famous anglers than you could possibly imagine for three days, whilst raising a shed load of cash for a truly worthwhile cause. It is organised by the legendary Len and Fran Gurd, both of who have lost loved ones to this terrible disease, so it is always an awesome but somewhat emotional event for them, hence why they work tirelessly for the charity.
After that I am going to join the crowds on Yateleys match lake for the autumn in an attempt to bag me a whacker. I had planned to start on there in June but the catfish are being a problem to anyone that puts in more than two boilies and knowing how much catfish love Code Red I thought I would wait until they go a bit more dormant in the colder months.
I have been a bit nomadic so far this summer, flitting around the local lakes and even catching a few. The best one being a nice 25lb 10oz mirror from Tarn Pond near Farnham that fell to a snowman presentation over a bed of single and snowman freebies. It is a lake that I grew up match fishing on and I must say that by judging by the size of the bream I was catching I may go back over on the quivertip for a days angling
.
Well that’s it really, just a quick catch up on what’s going on in the world of Poults.
See ya.
