Hi all, its been a while but I seemed to have lost my mojo for the first time in my fishing career. I just couldn’t get into to it and I didn’t know why which was the frustrating part I love my carp fishing it started when me and Mrs bear had got back from a week’s camping in Wales had a great time, weather was hot everyday and you can’t normally say that about Wales it rains most the time we go . Anyway I had got back from hols and driving back all I could think about was getting down Bearslake again and pit my wits against the local residents and as always the big common was on my mind. I will have that fish one day. I went for a walk round the lake and baited a few favourite spots up and went home with all the intention in the world to go next day and fish.
Morning came and I just couldn’t bring myself to go, what the hell what’s going on. I went down the lake walked round and just wasn’t feeling it. This went on for a few weeks even Mrs bear was getting worried about me. She had to me to just go for a day. Now those that know me know I don’t really do day sessions I like to do 2-4night’s if possible so I arranged a day sess with the boy jay skinner at Bear’s. Mrs bear came along to I set up had a brew and chat with jay and thought to myself this ain’t happening today by about midday I was packing up on way home. I was talking to Mrs bear and saying “I’ve lost my mojo” don’t know what to do. I almost considered packing up all together and taking up golf but that’s just a waste of a good walk. I’m a fisherman I thought. This
was on a Tuesday so I decided Friday I was going do 48hrs on the lake. I decided I was going back to basics, fish how I used to
just basic chod rigs helicopter style over a bed of bait, I’d been trying different rigs and sometimes I think you can overcomplicate things so back to the chod it was. I had set up on middle peg roadside opposite high bank as no one can fish opposite you there. It was about 3ish by the time rods were out and bivvy set up. I still wasn’t feeling it but said to myself come on bear this is what you do sort yourself out both rods were on chods on the far bank over a spread of bait. I was also baiting a margin spot to my right in front of the overhanging tree this was to be tomorrow’s night’s spot. the clock was ticking but at 6 o’clock ish my left rod went into melt down absolute screamer I lifted in to what felt like a good fish. The fight was on and what a fight it gave. She took a lot of line and I thought it was a catfish at first until it came surface and I seen a lovely chestnut brown mirror. I felt this is a 20 at least I must say at this point my heart was racing and excitement had kicked in at last I was feeling it again.
Was my mojo coming back. I got the fish in the net and onto the mat. She weighed in at 19lb 8oz and what a cracker it was. At this point I realised I’d forgotten camera lesson number 1 always check your kit before leaving home there was no one about so just took a mat shot with my phone. shame really.
With the rod back out on the spot I settled in for the evening. I watched the space station coming over and a few shooting stars
then went to get me head down. I got awoken about 5 o’clock with another run on theleft hand rod this time a tench, number 14 this year. As the day went on the lake went quiet and soon night time had arrived. I had moved my right hand rod into the marginal spot. while star gazing I thought to myself you can’t beat this carp fishing lark sat on the bank watching day turn to night and night into day. About 4 in morning my margin let out a bleep then another I thought tench again then it one tonered I lifted into it . After a good scrap which wiped me left hand rod out as well another mirror was on mat. This time 17lb 4oz. I was a very happy Bear.
After returning the fish and sorting my rods it was dawn so I sat having a brew watching the sun come up. This is the best part
of the day early morning listening to the dawn chorus shame a lot of folk will never hear that, I think it’s one of the great things
about fishing just being out there all hours on the bank morning noon and night……. about 7am my right rod went
again. Another tench so it was time for home before I knew it and I was one happy Bear 2 carp 2 tench but most importantly I enjoyed every minute of that session my mojo had returned and I’m glad it has because I love this crazy pastime of ours
we call carp fishing.
Thanks for reading and as always stay productive
cheers Bear
