Hi all, after last weekend’s success on Bearslake me and The Boy Jay Skinner decided to get out on a sneaky day session together. As you’ll know I normally do 48hrs or more on my sessions and I very rarely do day sessions. I have decided to start doing a few which will result in a blog series of THE BEAR AND THE BOY . We decided to fish Tuckers Holt in Heather just outside Ibstock run by Ibstock tackle and gun. It’s a beautiful lake with a big island in the middle of the lake. It’s not a big carp water, with the lake record being 24lb so it was more of a day session to get a
few bends in the rods . The boy has lost his way a bit with fishing lately a bit like I did so hopefully a few fish would do the trick and get him back on the bank .
So on the cold crisp autumnal morning I picked him up and set off in pursuit of a fish or 3. we arrived just at first light to a lovely sunrise over the lake and fish crashing . We picked pegs and set up. I set up a chod on one rod and fake corn on the other with a pva stick of crushed bloodworm x The Boy had a chod out and bottom bait . We cast out and sat back. After about 5 mins the boy was in and a common of about 8lb was on the bank you could tell he was pleased just to have a fish. Not big but in immaculate condition as all the fish are at Tuckers . Not long after the common the boy was in again this time a skimmer bream had been tripped up. I said I wouldn’t mention it but oh well I have sorry mate HA HA . I was beginning to think it wasn’t happening for me as I was talking to the bailiff my right hand rod shot off. I lifted in to it and missed it….. I don’t like missing runs so rod rebaited and back out . The bailiff had gone now and moments later the same rod was off again. I hit it I missed it couldn’t believe it 2 missed runs much to the boys amusement and taunts of noddy. I switched the fake corn rig to a chod as that had been the favoured rig . Both rods were now on chods one on pink crush pop up other on white ice pop up
It was getting on and I couldn’t believe how quick the time was going. After some more banter and putting the world to rights my left hand rod went off and moments later a common of 10lb was on bank another immaculate fish . Rod was put back out and not long after right rod went off and a mirror of 10lb was on the bank . The
noddy taunts had now stopped as I told the boy one of my carp weighed more than his carp and skimmer put together . Not that it mattered it was just nice be back out on the bank having the crack with the boy .
The wind was blowing a right cold NE. It was the first time I’d really felt a bit cold on bank for a long while sign of things to come I wondered after all it is October . As I pondered the on coming winter my left rod went off again and I hit into what felt like a bigger fish although I must add there is a lot of weed in the lake at the minute so I thought the fish must be weeded up. After a short fight the fish was on the bank and it was a stunner. Yet again it only weighed 13lb9oz but what a fish a common cross koi, bright orange with black flecks absolutely lovely fish we both stood admiring it after a few pics we put the carrot trophy fish back . The boy then had another common about 6lb and I had a mirror about same size and then The boy had another common a bit smaller . It was blowing a right hooley, as put by the boy ,so we decided to pack up and head home . We’d had a great day and a right laugh nothing massive but enjoyable and both seen a stunner of a carp .
Thanks for reading and until next time tight lines and as always
stay productive
cheers bear .
