Firstly let me introduce myself. I’m Martyn, your average angler who just appreciates the time I manage to get on the bank however little and often. I work your average Mon-Fri 9-5 job so my main style of fishing is short sessions through the week and day sessions at weekends and the often 24-48hr where possible. I keep things as simple and as prepared as possible to give myself the best opportunity of getting results on the bank.

It’s a great honour that I’ve been offered the opportunity to write my exploits for Catch-And-Release on a regular basis, no this or that just me saying things how they are and what I do on the bank to try and bag myself a fish or two. So after a busy start to the New Year it seemed like my last visit to a local estate lake was more than on the cards as if my memory serves me right it was Xmas eve and I had a 17.7 common and 23.15 mirror to reward me for my efforts. So knowing a spot I had fished a majority of my time there and always trickling bait in when possible I felt I was always in with a chance even though I hadn’t visited it for a few months. Armed with the lightest of lightest hardware I made the quick 15 minute walk to drop into my favoured swim. Rod out as this is a one rod rule water (Don’t Ask!!) and a scattering of around 30 baits it was an hour before my first piece of action! My trusty snowman set-up had done me the business again with the delkim well and truly screaming into meltdown coupled with the sound of the line popping out of the clip echoing around the swim. Lifting into the rod I could tell this fish was not a happy chappy! It made an immediate 25 yard dash from the corner of the island I hooked it at to the opposite snaggy corner in what felt like a matter of seconds. Making my way down the bank 3 platforms later I slowly managed to persuade a beautiful common into the net. Resting peacefully I went about getting the rod back on the spot with a further handful of freebies around the area as in short sessions time is key and the longer your rods aren’t in the water the less chance you have of repeating success after your first catch. Thankfully a couple of walkers by managed to grab a few pics for me (Not the greatest) but more for the records than anything else and so it was released on its merry way with a splash of the tail for good measure

This 18.10oz bar of gold in great condition and very welcome an hour into my arrival. Another hour passed with just a bream interrupting proceedings when I was then into another screamer of a take. From the same spot on the same tactics a low double mirror graced the net just after I had decided to get myself sorted and load everything in the mat for the walk home this fish had other ideas. So deciding it would be rude not to chuck the rod back out for another twenty minutes whilst I wiped the mat down and sorted everything back out I was being greedy for another take. Slipping this lovely little mirror back it was time to call it a day spraying the remainder of the bait out for a return visit I left happy with another successful session and two more fish under my belt.
