Hi all well it’s been a interesting few weeks on the fishing front. I started off with a 48.hr session on Bearslake with Mrs Bear, her first of the year at which point I will point out that normally when Mrs bear’s fishing with me it results in a blank . Was the jinx about to be lifted, we set up on badgers peg which I had been baiting up over the last few days. The rigs were put out on spots a chod rig on one spot with coconut cream pop up and a chod on margin spot with berry pop up both from specimen carp baits . We settled
down for the evening with a few beers and a Chinese can’t beat a nice ruby on the bank . The evening soon drew in and a few fish were moving over the left rod and it was looking promising. Before I knew it it was 5 in morning and nothing . So the kettle went on as Mrs bear was still asleep I sat back and watched the morning arrive. Its got to be my favourite time of the day, sunrise over the lake birds singing brew on the go…….. lovely . Mrs bear finally awoke and we were joined by the boy jay skinner who was doing a day session. I’d reeled in and rebaited both rods . The day seemed to fly by with lots of banter few beers good company before we knew it we were heading back to bed. There had been no action in day and it was looking like a blank that was until 7 o’clock next morning where my margin rod screamed into life. I lifted into it and there was a fish on after a few minutes and a moment when I thought it had come off a 19lb 6oz mirror was in the net. Get in….. jinx lifted, Mrs Bear did the pics. I think she was more pleased than me to have a carp on the bank I know after the long winter it was a welcome sight .
the story goes on
well after the 48.hr with Mrs bear it was off to oak lakes in Essex for the cat and carp cup 48.hr charity match with Team Catch and Release . I had been looking forward to this for weeks, finally getting to meet the team apart from Ethan who was in the BCAC on Baden Hall . I left home about 8:30 Friday morning and was due to arrive at 11-30, traffic permitting, it was a nice drive down even the m25 was playing ball. I arrived at lake and was met by the man himself Tales from Wales and John the fireman it was great to finally meet the lads and after a good chat and walk round lake we met Tony catandcarp who was running the event. shortly afterwards lee and mike turned up top blokes, I am proud to be part of it . If you’ve seen the video blog on catch-and-release1.com you’ll know the outcome…… we won. Our first comp together first win together well pleased. Although I blanked I enjoyed the whole weekend apart from cast recast cast recast run around bank shout cast recast run around bank shout if your reading this you’ll know who you are. Also was nice to meet some of the lads off twitter and put faces to names and the lads from specimen carp were also there nice to meet up again . So comp over time to head home a winner one happy bear thanks to all who took part for a great weekend.
well after the comp in Essex it was time to try to get some carp on the bank at Bearslake. Bank holiday weekend was approaching and it was forecast for a scorcher, so the plan was to do 4 nights Mrs bear joining me for 2 and the boy jay skinner doing 4 day sessions. l set up on the Thursday meeting the boy down lake, it was roasting so we had walk round seen plenty of carp grouping up I said to jay they look like there getting ready to spawn they might not be feeding with other things on there minds. After a few cold ones rods were out and a social was on the go it was then that the unknown dancer first appeared at lake took us all by surprise .I won’t prolong this blog with everyday reports but it has got to be the best weekend social I’ve had down bears for ages with plenty of banter great company and a few cold ones drunk. Mrs bear had joined us and was enjoying the sun and banter and we was enjoying the tench match that had started as this seemed to be all that was feeding. We tried surface fishing zigs everything they just weren’t interested . The tench match ended bear 6 the boy 3 Mrs bear’s jinx was lifted for good I reckon only next time let it be carp. She’s got her eye on a target and is after the one they call the Big Common . Over the weekend I had a call from Tales from Wales asking if I wanted to fish in Welsh carp cup and of course I said yes so got that to look forward to at the end of month . So with the tench match over and 2 more appearances from the unknown dancer it was time to head home .I love that first night’s sleep back in your own bed after few nights bankside then next morning all I think about is getting back on the bank for some more night sessions love it .thanks for reading and as always
stay productive
cheers BEAR
