Finally I have managed to sit down and write something up. The past few months have been a bit chaotic for me and a few ups and downs that have made getting out on the bank a bit difficult, but I have been out doing a bit but to no avail unfortunately. I have a few things I am looking at trying to set about doing over the next few months on the slow build up to winter which is getting out fishing more for one, you’re probably thinking that’s easy.. Only problem is that the evenings are drawing shorter but hopefully this shall work in my favour.
I have been out to my local club lake a couple of times to see if I can get a few runs on zigs being one of my main strengths for this time of year but nothing seemed to have happened apart from a small low double. This was caught on a 13ft zig with a washed out pink trimmed down popup and a small sharpened hook. This was a really tricky fight as I was using a 9ft 3lb dwarf but I got it in the bag and that’s all that counts.
Then I managed to get down to a small day ticket lake for a short evening session, this time I have been testing a different bait. I have been messing around with wafters and popups as I seem to think that using a standard bottom bait attached to a rig won’t act like that of a wafter or a normal boilie because its more or less pinned to the bottom so using the RG Baits 365 wafters and some of the spray with a small bag of pellet have been working for me again using zigs.
From this small day ticket lake I had done a blog on floater fishing, meaning this is always a good port of call for a short evening session as it’s bound to throw up a few fish specially seeing the up and coming stock that is currently coming through.
As winter is about to draw closer and closer, I shall be looking at fishing long day sessions/weekend on Walthamstow. It is a venue that has grown on me and I love the aesthetics along with the surrounding where it is set. Being able to see Canary Wharf and the Gherkin doesn’t seem real as it seems as if it is in the countryside. I will mainly be fishing Pit One as there is a good stock within the lake to be able to bag a few fish especially when it gets really cold but also on the search for a bigger fish from Pit 2/3.
I must apologise this time round as it’s only a short one as I don’t have much to report but hopefully on the next one it’ll be a bit more informative for you and something worth reading, my next blog will be a bit longer and a bit more padded out, once I get a few fish under my belt hopefully it’ll fire me back into doing what I love. Thanks for your support over the past few months and bearing with me.
All the best
Ross
