Hi all,
The best period of the year has started and as the leaves start changing different colours and winds change, storms and rain will follow. This is the kick off for Seb and my favourite period of the year is starting . As many will stop fishing when the cold weather arrives followed with rain and storms I will start with investing in sections. I will fish this autumn and this winter as I fish all year round . putting in effort in this period your winter and autumn pegs will bring you many carp in the autumn and winter. Making peg choices.
I always invest a lot of time in spotting carp and after many hours and years you will find some sections you will always find the carp in this period of the year . The carp will be where the most food will be found for them like crayfish . From these areas they will go to their winter zone and my personal experience is you will find them in some deeper sections of the lake and they will stay in that zone most of the time in winter . By investing in some pre baiting in that zones you will get the benefit in the winter out of it for sure. I will come back to this in the next article I will write for catch and release . My autumn peg choices : well like I said I will be fishing the zones where you will find the crayfish and other shellfish in this period of the year before they will dig in for the winter in the mud or under rocks etc. As the water is starting to get clear again I start using baits that are similar to the colour of the ground I do this to stop the birds diving on my baits . Beside that I will always make a baited zone about 20 meters form my main peg with corn etc. so if the birds find a baited area it will be that one if you know what I mean . Ok me and my fishing mate start pre baiting a peg near an island and in the middle of the reeds .
We decide to fish this zone as we have spotted many crayfish and other shellfish in this area . We start baiting the pegs up with the scopex liver of Holland baits . A sweet fish boilie with liver added and scopex to make the boilie complete . We start to bait the zones up with 16 mm , 20 mm , 26 mm boilies and dumbles with a particle mix added of buckwheat , maples and hemp with liver liquid added .
We go every two days to bait this zone up with a mix of 5 kg of all baits on each peg . After 2 weeks baiting on this zone we decide it’s time to fish the area for the first time . I decide to use the inline bungee lead system on 2 rods and the bungee lead clip on one rod . I will talk through this systems step by step at the end of this article . With this systems you make every rig a bungee rig you will attach to it and after the carp is hooked the elastic will come lose and you have a free run system so the carp can’t shake the hook loose and believe me even the most hard to catch carp will fall in your trap .
Finally after a long way in the dinghy in the rain with alot of wind we arrive soaking wet to our peg we made in the reeds . We start to build up our brolly’s and it’s time to get the rods in to position .
I will fish all rods with a 16 mm scopex liver dumble with a 20 mm boilie on top of it . I place my rods in position and bait up around it some boilies and dumbles and some halibut micro pellets and present my rig in a godman pva bag with some crunched boilies and its game on .
After a nice chat with my mate and some cold beers we decide to crawl in our sleeping bags and I get the first take around 09:00 in the morning . My delkim screams and I slip into my waders and go to my screaming rod and strike . The carp gives a great fight and I can finally land it after 15 minutes of playing the fish . A beautiful mirror of this huge lake is the first reward.
After making some video and pictures I release the carp and we decide to pack up and pre bait the zones again and come back 2 days later . We return 2 days later and do the same ritual again with the same tactics . After placing all the rods in position me and Dennis have a long chat about our great hobby and we enjoy the autumn sighting in front and around us .
After a view beers we decide it’s time to close our eyes . The next morning around 06:30 Dennis has a take and fits on his wader so do I and he strikes and start playing the fish . After 20 minutes I land the fish for him in the landing net and a fantastic looking mirror is landed . We weigh the carp and we take some pictures and video of the carp and release this beauty in her habitat again .
We decide to pack up and pre bait the zones again and return 2 days later again . We do this tactic as I believe this way the carp will have more confidence with feeding and the bigger carp will get more interested to take a bait . Well 2 days later we go back again while we place the rods in position I see bow waves from 2 pegs in front of me of rushing away carp so we have confidence we will get a take again .
After a long chat about a new venue we want to fish we decide to get to our bed chairs and close our eyes . It’s around 06:00 when I get a take and again I fit in my waders and rush to my rod on my screaming delkim and strike . The carp gives a great fight and directly tries to get around the corner of the island . After some extra pressure I can turn the carp to the opposite way and after 20 minutes I can land the carp . Again a great looking mirror of this huge lake….. after making some video’s and picture I release this well earned fish and me and Dennis enjoy our amazing surrounding on our own created peg in the reeds with a fantastic sunrise behind the island .
It kept quiet the rest of the day and we are already planning our new venue we want to fish before we return to this peg . We caught all our carp on the inline bungee lead system and the bungee lead clip system on different rigs so like I said in the beginning of the article I will talk show this very easy to create systems step by step so you can try it out yourself and be amazed by it.
You will need :
2 swivels ,1 inline lead ,1 lead clip , 2 tail rubbers , glue , 0.72mm elastic , and 2 shocker beads
We start with making the inline bungee lead system :
You make a 4 turn grinner knot with the elastic on the swivel and pull it tight after wetting it up and cut it of on 15 cm . Now you take the insert of your inline lead and glue it in the lead so it can’t get lose any more . Now you take your main line and if you use a shocker leader and a backslider and now take the line through the tail rubber , the inline lead , shocker bead and attach it to your swivel where you also have got the elastic on .
Now you pull the elastic through the shocker bead with your boilie needle and push the shocker bead over your swivel .
Now you pull the elastic inside your insert of your inline lead and cut it off on 3 mm out of the end of your insert and you pull your tail rubber around the insert with the elastic between it and your system is ready for use .
You do the same steps for the bungee lead clip system only now you pull your elastic into your lead clip and that system is ready as well .
I would say just give it a go and try it out as it works for me every time .
