A good start to the winter campaign.
Since getting out to the winter target water a few weeks back. My fishing time has been a bit on the low side. As I do a few voluntary bits after work from about October onwards, this meant I lost my Thursday night to get out on the bank. 3 weeks went by and I was tearing my hair out. I managed to get out on the bank after the third week for a quick day sessions after an early finish on the Friday.
I got down to the park like for one o’clock and fished the rest of the afternoon. Unfortunately I couldn’t execute anything, this isn’t for any particular reason apart from not being able to get on the fish. I persisted and moved around but nothing unfolded.
The following Thursday, I was adamant that I wanted to get out on the bank for a quick overnighter. I left work on time and got to the lake within 35 minutes which was a good run! I went for a quick walk and instantly saw two fish roll at about 65 yards on the spot which I found two days prior. I went for a wonder round as I had a couple of hours to kill and decided to do some prep for my overnighter.
I walked back to the car, loaded the barrow and bolted back up to the peg which I saw the fish show. 8 spombs of bait later followed by two very simple but incredibly affective rigs and I was fishing! The brolly soon went up and I was beginning to chill out under the brolly. A couple of shows and a couple of liners and the left rod soon peeled off.
This was quite a memorable fish. I’ve had a fair few scaly mirrors in the ten years I have been fishing but this fish was a first for me. It was a nice perfect Leather. She came in at just shy of 14lb.
The fish was returned after a couple of trophy shots and the rod was back out. Another PVA stick followed by 3 more spombs of bait and I was back in business. I sat watching the water and all I could see was fish after fish showing in the general area. I saw a few fish show off a floating raft to my right hand side. I should have brought a third rod with me but being a complete tool, I left it in the car.
As I sat back and watched the water, 2 more fish showed and I had another take. This fish fought really hard but she was soon in the net. This fish fell to my preferred snowman presentation also with a small PVA stick made up of 18mm mesh. This fish was a tidy looking common. She was soon back and the rod was put back put followed by another helping of bait. I was sat on social media and I got a few messages to say the weather was turning so I took the decision upon myself to shoot off home. After a couple of fish I wasn’t particularly bothered about having to pack up early.
I was truly elated to have a couple of fish on a short 4 hour session. The conditions seems spot on. They most definitely weren’t put off the introduction of a bit of bait before putting two rigs out.
The rigs on both rods were really simple which I will outline in my next session along with the small sticks.
This put a smile on my face as it was a good start for my first session of the winter campaign.
Until Next Time
