Man on fire – Frimley sessions
I couldn’t pull myself away from Frimley Pit 3 like I had intended for the spring. I had intended fishing on my other water for that period after a huge old brute of a fish. Frimley though , feels like home.
Not only are the fish stunning but the surroundings are too. The syndicate is a friendly bunch too. I’ve been doing well using the multi-rig. I tie it with RigMaroles Skinful brown, a bore ring for attaching the 12mm hi-viz mainline fruitella pop up and a grain of alien baits green corn. The hook I use is important too, I use a size 6 rigmarole hunchbax’s hook. This, with a tiny piece of putty around the loop/knot of the multi rig, helps it sink perfectly. Nice a slowly. When you drop it in the margins you see how it sits. It looks cock on.
I also like to drop the lead on the take because of the weed that’s in the lake. I find it helps landing them as there is no build up of weed around the lead and also they tend to fight more on the surface rather than burying their heads in the weed.
On a recent session I was lucky enough to land another of the ‘A’ team along with 3 others. A fish known as Gregory peck at a pb weight of 43.12 common was the first victim.
Being up at 4.30am to watch the water I saw fish showing but not in my swim. I moved and fished the famous double boards swim but chose to fish it shorter than most do in that swim.
I’d seen fish showing in the area and knew that there must be a way to trip them up. In the day time I had two fish on zigs to 28lb odd. Both on 6ft zigs with cut down mainline cell pop ups as hookbaits.
During the night I put my faithful multi rigs on and fished on the close in spots. A scattered about 4 kilo of cell and hybrid around the hookbaits. On top of this I spombed 4 spombed of particle mix from carp particles UK. At about 11.30 pm the right hand rod tore off at a rate of knots. It had me scrambling out the pit to play a hard fighting frimley fully. On closer inspection it was my first repeat capture of one I had had less than two weeks ago. This time it was up slightly in weight at 28.12. Still a very pretty fish. I had a very good friend pop round for a chat and had brought me a curry. Aaron. Now anyone who knows him knows he’s a damn good photographer. He’d said before leaving that if I had anything good to give him a call, no matter what the time to come do the photos. Little did I or he know that I’d be calling him at 3.30am to come and do the pics of something rather special. Hats off to him for keeping his word. What stunning pics he did too.
The fish was stunning. Golden flanks and perfectly proportioned. Just like to thank everyone who congratulated me. Aaron in particular for all he did. The owner of Frimley and his bailiffs have worked wonders on the complex without detracting from its beauty there. It’s a credit to them. Would also like to thank all my sponsors for all their help.
