ParkLake Update
So over the past few weeks I had been putting a bit of time in over on my Park Lake in which I have decided to give it one more year before calling it a day. I’ve had the place to myself over the past season and probably the same this year also so it’s like fishing my own little syndicate. Last year was a bit up and down but this year after doing my bit at the work party it couldn’t have gone any better. I’ve already had two fish so far and both absolute corkers in their own rights. Both taken on my new rig I have adopted from the big man Darrell Peck. When I saw the rig I knew it would be perfect for the venues I fish as these tend to be choddy silty waters where presentation is best suited off the bottom. With this warmer weather picking up it has really made the place spring into life and the fish have well and truly woken up now too! I have been fishing a shallow corner bay area where I have had previous success and this is my main area of concentration. My first fish of the year came around lunchtime one afternoon and gave me an epic take. Absolute one toner and once it was in the cradle you could see why. Hooked a good inch or so back it well n truly wanted my single bait.
Each one of these fish are a spectacular of scales and this one was no different. Against the pale of the reeds it really shows off just how beautiful these old original estate lake carp are.
So the following week and it was Easter bank holiday weekend and I had a few other trips planned to other waters and after a tiring 24 hour blank where conditions done one thing and the weather report done another I nearly didn’t bother getting out that morning but something was telling me I needed to. The sun was high, very warm and I had a feeling that I should be putting a rod out to my likely spot! Low and behold I got there nobody else was to be seen and out went my single washed out pink pop-up on the spot. I had literally just demolished my breakfast being an easter egg and the rod well and truly ripped off. I stood in disbelief for what felt like an eternity but after hitting into it I knew I was into another fish. It came in relatively quickly but took two swipes of the net to get it safely in the net.
Once out and in the cradle It was apparent that this was another stunner. The scale patterns on these fish are second to none and each one is truly stunning in its own right. Slices, starbusts, scattered all can be seen on these impeccable creatures. With the water still being pretty clear watching them fight in the margins under the tip is a spectacle always that has the heart in the mouth.
The scales tipped 23lb8oz and this was my biggest from the Park Lake so far and again against the pale reed margin reed line it really shows off the fantastic colours. I hope this year I can show you more of these fantastic fish and add to my album. Tight lines all.
