Not having fished Lamby Lake for some time I thought it would be nice to get back to the old stomping ground for a 24 hour session and catch up with some of the lads. The weather outlook was the best it’s been for ages, Strong SW wind, rain, low pressure and temperatures on the up felt like spring was in the air. With the new season about to kick off and a new bait from first4fishing on the horizon I was eager to give it a go. I arrived at the car park at first light left the gear in the motor and headed for the Tump which gives you a Birdseye view over the lake and can be a vital tool at times when deciding on a swim,,, But after an hr there’s no tell tail signs of fish so I go with a gut feeling and opt for a swim
I get the Bivvy up whilst there’s a break in the rain and set about tying some new rigs. The weather is forecast to get really windy later in the afternoon so I don’t waste any time getting the rods out on their spots. After a much deserved cuppa and sarnie I chill on the bed chair and unlike me fall asleep ?,,,but only for than an hour or so because I’m woken by a screaming Delkim ,,, the right hand rod has roared off and I’m up like a flash but a bit confused as to why I was asleep, Kiting right I’m forced to give it a bit of Welly, it does feel a good fish and despite all my efforts it manages to get down the margin reads to my right but soon decides to come back out into open water, as I’m playing it I notice a mate of mine Robbo is setting up in the next swim so he’s on hand to net it for me looking into the net he recognises the fish and says “Lumpy mid 20” and he’s not far wrong 26lb on the nose well pleased.
That evening the usual Rumney Balti Kebab or the fisherman’s special as it’s now known and a catch up with the lads topped off a good day. It’s always nice to get off to a good start on new bait. And I’m really looking forward to the season ahead.
