Opportunity Knocks
I was recently sent the new Wychwood dedicated floater rod and reel. Wicked I though, as surface fishing isn’t something I’ve done a lot of and always had to make do before. Having to breaking down one of my lightweight rods every time the weather looked good. I have now been carrying this and a Solace Bucket Tool Station full of dog biscuits around in the back of the car “JUST IN CASE”. I’m sure you can all relate to that and it’s why I’m sure we take too much fishing with us! This “Justin Case” has a lot to answer for!
So after a day of driving up and down the motorways my son is settled in his new student accommodation. Me, well I drop in on the lakes for a walk round and some time to chill and enjoy the sun as its sets over the water. We as anglers often get to enjoy the best that Mother Nature has to offer and it doesn’t cost us a penny! Something I feel others don’t understand when they question why we fish.
With the sun setting I noticed a couple of fish were chasing a fly hatch on the surface. Did I need a second invitation? Nope and within minutes I was back from the car with a rod, landing net, unhooking mat, bucket of biscuits and catapult. I was only going to get a couple of casts, so had to make then count.
With luck on my side I was rewarded with a stunning double figure mirror and after a quick picture it was time for some social time with friends and a cuppa tea.
