Hi all well here we go Bears first blog from
Bearslake in Stretton Burton on Trent Staffordshire this is the lake I run its a
6 acre pit with average depth of 14feet with deep margins perfect for
stalking the local residents which go to 30+ I have fished this lake 30 years on
and off as its near to where I grew up and have a great affection for the place
so, when we was offered the chance to take it over we jumped at it couldn’t bear
to see it go to ruin for more info you can call me on 07716513562 we have a
website to www.bearslake.co.uk hope to see some of you reading this on the bank there .
Right the session I was planning was a 48hr session the weather wasn’t great, but I needed to get on the bank, I had been baiting a few spots the previous week and after a walk round decided to fish a peg called badgers peg(r.i.p mate) this was badgers favourite swim and you could find him his dog and a case of cider there bivvied up for a week or more I still miss our chats about carp life in general and whatever else we could find to talk about . After setting up camp and putting a bit more bait in which is a new bait for me as I’ve started field testing for specimen carp baits which I’m really excited about as they have some cracking bait check their website out www.specimencarpbaits.co.uk I set the rods up with one on my favourite rig, the chod and the other one with a kd rig. The chod rig was a winter berry white pop up and the kd rig was a winter berry bottom bait with a 10mm pop up tipper creating a snowman style rig. After casting out on to my chosen spots kettle was on for a brew as it was late afternoon and the temp was already starting to plummet I was then joined for a chat by (the boy) Jay Skinner ,one of the bailiffs at the lake ,he was fishing the next day with me so had come down see where he was going to fish so after he had gone it was time for some of Mrs bears homemade sausage bar with Mexican cheese love it thank you Mrs bear love you . After a snack and another brew it was dark and getting colder so I retreated into my bivvy for the night after the appropriate call to Mrs bear to say goodnight I was in my bag and was asleep in a matter of seconds.
I woke up at 5ish ,as usual, to a white out jack frost had been busy it was freezing so kettle on brew time I hadn’t had a bleep in the night so after me brew reeled in changed hook baits and re cast on to the spots. The boy had since turned up and set up in the next swim down from me, we had a good feeling something might happen during the morning as the frost had gone and the sun was out and looking good for a bite but unfortunately……. Nothing. Tuftys were diving all over the bait and I kept getting bleep after bleep from them doing my head in so I reeled in for a bit and would cast out again later . Jay went as he doesn’t do nights, can’t say I blame him .I was wishing I was at home tucked up in bed with Mrs bear too. Still you won’t catch at home I could hear me granddad telling me in my head and its true you wont.so rods went back outand off to bed. I woke up early again to another frost and with no bleeps orliners so it looked like it was going to be a blank unless you count the tufty I had on the chod rig good hook hold I was impressed.
so until next time when hopefully I’ll have a carp or two to show off stay productive and thanks for reading and visiting catch and release cheers
THE BEAR
