On a cold damp September morning twenty-three carp anglers from all across the country gathered together at the prolific venue that is Barston lakes, a lake that hosts a whole array of carp fishing competitions throughout the year due to its abundance and variety of pretty fish. So what links all the anglers that attended the event? Well carp fishing for one but the social networking site Twitter played the bigger part. The carp fishing community on twitter is vast. A place for tackle companies to advertise, a place for anglers to interact and follow their idols in the sport but more importantly a place where this whole family share ideas, experiences and the love for this special past time. Most anglers spend a lot of their time and money on their chosen waters alone, trying to outwit these magnificent and unique creatures, that said the opportunity to share the bank amongst friends if often an option that simply can’t be missed which was the case for this elite team of beautiful and kind caring people below.
This wasn’t the first time twitter has aided in rounding up like minded social friendly anglers but it was the first time it has been used for such a great cause as The Stacey Mowles appeal. Being involved in organizing and coordinating this event alongside Richard Penney was an honor, with his drive and passion for making the fundraising side of things such a huge success.Touching back on the carp fishing community on twitter a huge amount of gratitude cannot go unspoken to the businesses and people that got involved so firstly thank you to Castaway estates in France for sponsoring the event and donating a week’s fishing holiday at your venue. I know Jack Mawdsley the overall winner of the castaway carp cup is looking forward to sampling the wanders of your established French water. Jack also cleaned up with the largest fish trophy donated by the Angling Gazette
All other contributors: Climax Tackle, Mosquito Angling, Julian Cundiff, The Firm Carp Company and Farnham Angling society your kind donations were greatly received and played a part in generating even more money for Stacey in an on the bank raffle so thank you to all.
Back to the fishing itself all twenty-three participants had a haul of fish with a mixture of commons, mirrors, fully scaled and linears with the lake almost being like a lucky dip of surprisingly pretty treasure
Finally a massive thank you to all that attended the event without you guys none of this could have been possible. Together we raised over £4000 so well done all. Our hearts go out to Stacey and her family and hope this helps with her returning to full health.
