After an up and down 2013 not really setting my stalls on a particular water I was determined that 2014 would be more planned and constructive when it came down to planing my years fishing. Still working alongside First4Fishing and with the new shop Bait (The Red Ball) imminent I was really looking forward to the coming season. I was waiting on a call for a new syndicate water mid May to start fishing in June so to fill those months I fished mainly between Lamby Lake and The Wharf in cardiff.
February and March went really well on Lamby bagging some of it’s stunning bred through commons, stocked mirrors and an old acquaintance Cut Tail at 28lb the new bait was off to a flyer and I couldn’t have asked for better really. Being a council owned nature reserve see’s the lake close for the month of April so a short trip towards the City centre to The Wharf is were I spent the next two months, a place not far from home but somewhere I hadn’t fished much at all apart from the odd session and a wonder with the floater rod the year before.
I got off to a flying start landing some stunning old dark commons to 27lb as well as some pretty scaley mirrors to 26lb which to be fair was one of the best looking mirrors I’ve ever caught.
Having been approached by John at Catch and Release I was more than happy to join the team knowing how hard they work it was a no brainer really, it’s an exciting place to be right now and just seems to be getting stronger and stronger.
Unfortunately I didn’t get my ticket on Farriers so instead opted for an RDAA ticket and by the end of June had decided to try my luck on Farnham Flint, due to time and distance my aim was to fish a 48hr session at least once a month, Not as much time as I would have liked but that was all I could spare. Flint is a stunning looking place with everything a carp angler could ask for. And from the off I just seemed to get In tune with the lake catching some really nice fish a few 30’s to 36lb and managed both my Common and Mirror PB’s.
My ticket doesn’t finish until June 2015 so I’m hoping to catch a few more by then.
So in all this year has defiantly been a god one I’ve met some new anglers this year home and away also first4fishing who continue to support me deserve a mention along with everyone who has followed liked and shared all my Facebook post and blogs all year big thanks to you guys and hope next year is even bigger with some new waters and companies to work with it should be an exiting one.
Merry Christmas & Have a great new year, but most of all enjoy your fishing.
