This is going to be a big year for myself and a few of the catch team as I’m fishing in the British Carp Angling Championships and also in the Welsh Carp Cup. This have been a dream of mine to fish in both of these competitions as they play a massive part in the carp fishing scene as I’m very passionate about being Welsh and its an honour to fish in the Welsh Carp Cup. As for the BCAC I grew up watching this comp when I was younger now to be fishing in it wow is this real????
January/February…..
I cant not remember a worse January than the one that has just passed, bad weather mixed with terrible weather with a splash of horrid weather has seen many of my target lakes flooded. So reluctantly I hung the rods up for a bit and concentrated on my new job as I’ve been promoted at work which means more money but more importantly more holidays!!!!! Result.
Things were going well what with the weather finally starting to make a turn for the better it looked like my lines were getting get wet sooner than I thought, however mother nature soon put a stop to that idea when snow hit parts of the country very badly indeed. What with the water levels being higher already the melting snow rose it to dangerous levels and the lake will be remained closed.
I received a phone call from John ‘Tales from Wales’ Flewin asking me would I like to join him on a 48 hour session on the Birch Syndicate in Peterstone. Now with me being a big softie what with it being Valentines Day I could only manage to pop down for a few hours. My girlfriend is not so forgiving as Johns wife. As I pulled into the car I was greeted by John And Martin the Bailiff, as we chatted about all things carpy, I couldn’t wait to get to the lake and have a wonder around. John was already set up in peg two next to the VIP swim (named because of the deluxe shed it has in the swim, heater, fridge, huge comfy peg. Its like a home from home.) The conditions weren’t brilliant but the forecast was to get better, so John and I thought it would be a good idea to fish a rod on a zig and two on the bottom. With a few kilos of innovate baits S2T dispatched to the spot we sat back and sipped coffee and chatted about the year to come. Minutes drifted into hours and before long it was time for me to go with a good luck shake of the hand, I was back in my car and headed home.
I got a text message from John early the following morning saying that he bagged one over the baited spot considering a fish hadn’t been caught in 10 days I would say that was a result. However it didn’t stop there the more bait he introduce the more the fish were willing to feed. That is testimony to a good bait like the S2T from innovate baits, its has no artificial rubbish in any of the bait that they sell only pure goodness which in my opinion makes it a top quality bait. John finished up with 4 fish to 22lbs 8oz which for this time of year was a right result. Hopefully I will be joining him for a session early march so stay tuned hopefully we can build on that session.
