I arrived at my syndicate early saturday afternoon after finishing work.It had been a long hard week and not to mention hot aswell, and with the change in weather coming in later that night due to the back end of a recent hurricane overseas i just had had to get down for a overnighter.
So first things first,I grabbed the bucket out of my car and set off round the lake in search of carp.
Straight away I bumped Into two of my friends who were fishing a corner of the lake, and it was very clear why. There were carp everywhere,as I didn’t want to jump in between them both I set off again.I spent the next 30/40minutes walking the lakes with not a great deal to go on,I did find a fairly big group of carp down the other end of the lake by the willow but they weren’t very big.
So I made my way back to the corner where my mates were fishing and asked if it was ok to jump inbetween them……Fishing educate and all that rather than put my bucket down and annoy them. So I got the all clear to fish there which was a result, back to the car to get my gear.
First things first, find three spots for the night.
For this I don’t use a marker float,I’ve never really used one and can’t see myself using one in the future. For me it’s just a case of taking of my rig then putting on a lead and away I go.
My three spots were now sorted for the night and I was happy with the drops I got on all 3 spots, they weren’t the hardest of drops I’ve ever had but I felt them down and was happy.
Time to get some bait out there, bait choice yet again would i40.But this time I’ve started to bait up and fish the i40red along side it.The idea behind this is that there quite similar baits apart from a few bits and pieces and the carp may prefer one to the other so I can easily change hook baits.
As I have a bit of Carpy OCD,3 spombs of hemp and 3 spombs of mixed boiles were dispatched on to all 3 spots. So with everything sorted it was time to sit back and relax and have a nice takeaway, which my mum kindly dropped off to the lake for me and my mates….she really is a good girl haha
It was a fairly quiet evening with the odd carp crashing but I was still confident, after all I did have the lucky charm with me that my niece and nephews brought me from there holiday.
The rain got here about midnight which was expected as it was the back end of the storm coming over from the Atlantic,it wasn’t until about 1:30 in the morning when my right hand Neville let out a couple of bleeps.so I quickly chucked on my water proof jacket and checked the rod.
Due to the rain at the time I didnt actually here the spool melting off.Due to the take the line had come of the roller.Fish on I thought Great !
It actually didn’t put up much of a scrap and to be honest it felt quiet small, but what do I know.My mate turned up to do the honours which the net and after he switched on his head touch he said mate it’s a chuck….which is always what you want to here.
So after getting everything ready, the mat and scales etc it went 38.8….Amazing,I was blown away,I had just beaten my PB yet again on here…what a lake.
Trophie shots were taken and the carp was sent back home.
